Buying a Condo in Virginia Beach? Here"s What You Should Know

103 5
For those looking for a relaxing, luxurious spot to settle, Virginia Beach provides the sun, the ocean breezes, and many activities for your dining and recreation.
It's no secret that Virginia Beach is one of the larger cities in the state - with miles of beautiful shore and endless job opportunities, who wouldn't want to live here? With all the condominiums on the market, the potential home owner can take his time shopping for the right place, and asking the right questions about prospective properties is a good way to make sure you get the best home for your needs.
Whether you have lived in the Hampton Roads area for years or are just moving to the city, chances are you still have quite a bit to learn about the neighborhoods you are scouting.
As you shop for a new place to live, keep these questions in mind.
1) What is the overall condition of the neighborhood at night? Are there issues with noise and crime? If you are looking at beach condos, expect heavy traffic, especially if the complex is near a popular nightspot on the Oceanfront.
Even in Chick's Beach, there's quite a bit of activity, so if you crave quiet keep this in mind.
2) When was the complex last assessed? One thing you might not realize as you shop for condos is that the buildings go through regular assessments to determine what overall repairs and improvements need to be made.
Living on the beach in particular, you may encounter erosion and damage from tropical storms.
When assessments are made, it can affect condo fees, which in turn changes the price on a condo.
If you were to buy a condo before an assessment you could end up paying several thousand dollars right off the bat before you have a chance to settle in! Don't let this discourage you from buying, however.
Ask questions about the property so you know what to expect.
3) What am I allowed? With some complexes, there are covenants to observe.
If you have satellite TV, a pet, a boat, more than two cars, or something else you think might be forbidden, check to see what will be left behind.
4) What is the school district? If you have children, find out the school district.
While Virginia Beach has one of the best public school systems in the state, you may have a specific place in mind for your child.
Make sure you can send your kids where you want them to go.
Take the time to research where in Virginia Beach you wish to live, and get to know the neighborhood and the condo before you bid.
A beach condo is a great investment!
