It is the oldest coalition of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world and the oldest U.
national AIDS organization.
It encourages individuals to receive voluntary HIV counseling and testing.

It is beneficial to both the HIV positive as well as the HIV negative.
The counseling and testing helps people with HIV virus to take steps to protect their own health and at the same time the health of their partners.
