When you are planning a wedding, expense is often a consideration. Another consideration is an interesting location. Both can add to the experience of the wedding, making it an event that will stay with you forever. Renting a hall, holding the service in a church or booking an event room in a hotel are the usual places people choose to hold their wedding. By holding your wedding in a cute place, you may be surprised that the service may not only be memorable but inexpensive as well.
Spring Point Ledge Light, South Portland, Maine
- This cute location works well for a very small service where the only attendees are the priest or clergy person, the best man and woman and, perhaps, the parents. Spring Point Ledge Light is located on a wharf that extends out into the harbor in Casco Bay. By holding the service on the end of the wharf, you will feel as though you are in the harbor itself, with lobster boats, fishing boats, ferries and tanker ships steaming by with what seems like yards away.

- A barn is the perfect place to hold a wedding, for it is a large, open space. This allows you to set it up with chairs for the service, rearrange the chairs and add tables for the reception, then clear the tables and chairs to make an instant dance floor. Judy Green, a Maine writer, described the success of her daughter's wedding in the 19th-century barn of her great-great-great grandfather. Perhaps the highlight was the contra dancing that took place accompanied by a live band.
A State Park
- If you and your spouse-to-be enjoy the outdoors, then a state park can be a perfect venue. Some portable tents, chairs and tables can make set-up easy while taking nothing away from the beauty of nature.
