Plaça del Pi is one of Barcelona's most historic squares, located just off Las Ramblas in Barrio Gotico. Always brimming with street artists, interesting stalls and people chatting on the cafe terraces, Plaça del Pi is also interesting from an architectural point opf view, with its medieval church and charming townhouses.

The square is named after its 14th Century church, Santa María del Pi, famous for its stained-glass rose window - a 1940 replica of the original - and beautiful Gothic arches.

Directly in front of the church's main entrance there are often food stalls selling local delicacies such as honey, cheese and cured meats or embutidos. Beside the church there are more stalls belonging to artists display their work.

Also dotted around the square are a number of boutique shops and admittedly rather touristy restaurants and cafes. Nevertheless, a coffee on one of the terraces is always a good idea, for this is one of the best spots in the Barrio Gotico to kick back and people-watch for a couple of hours.
