Facelets vs Portlets...so confused...!

In a JSF application, what are the differences between a portlet and a facelet? I tried to read the official documentation for both, but they went over my head (as I'm still struggling to learn JSF itself at this time).

What do you recommend, and how do they integrate with JSF and/or JSP?

Are they mutually exclusive? If not, do they still compete with each other or are they totally unrelated technologies?

How do they fit into the presentation layer in general? I don't see how everything fits together.

Please help out a JSF newbie on this one. Thanks.
