StarOffice 8 no spell check if saved as xml file

When creating a new document the spell check works fine. After saving the document as xml and reopening the document, spell checker no longer works. Errors in existing text or new words that are typed wrong all show as correctly spelled.

Installed latest StarOffice 8 patches and problem remains the same.

If I open the xml file in MS Word the spell checker in Word finds the errors.

Thursday 18 January 2007Near as I can tell, the XML format does not save language information. If you open an XML file you have to select all, then use Character to choose a language for that editing session.Phil

Saturday 20 January 2007I decided to do more testing with the XML format and SO8. I opened an XML file created by another program and SO8 asked me for file definitions including language.Phil

Thanks for the info, I think to keep life simple I will just save in the Word 97/2000/XP format since I need to exchange documents with Office 2003 users.
