6140 Volume Size

I'm trying to setup 2 6140's.One of the issues I'm encountering is that the maximum volume size seems to be2tb. This limit is easily reached with the newer 500gb disks. Is there a way to create larger volumes ?

What solaris release?Solaris 8 has a 2TB limit.Solaris 9 & 10 can exceed 2TB by labeling the disk with a format -eIf I remember correctly.

The problem is that I can't even create 2tb+ volumes on the 6140 itself.

I too am having this problem. I have a 6140 Array with 7 shelves full of 500gig disks. This 2TB limit is crazy, and is hampering my rollout.WHen will this artificial limit be fixed please?

Unfortunately this is due to the Command Descriptor Block which is part of the SCSI specification. The 6140 uses 12-byte CDBs which limits the maximum volume size to almost 2TB.There is no current way to create larger volumes on the 6140.

Thanks for the response.May I suggest that the Sales team are notified of this? As we were not before our purchase, and had I known, I would have picked a different model from Sun that didnt have this limit.Thanks.
