Blade 1000 missing IDPROM
Hello everyone!!!
I got me a New Years present on eBay, Sun Blade 1000.
Upon its arrival i turned it on only to discover all kinds of problems.
So i ran here, started reading about diagnostics and stuff.
obdiag ran fine, no errors found. All Devices seem to be ok, but it won't boot. Here is the screen output:
Start Reason: First start after Power On

Then you see that black and yellow Sun face icon and the following:

I looked at the zoomed in picture of the left view of the machine and noticed something strange - i seem to be missing the IDPROM chip. That chip with a yellow sticker right below the CPU modules, to the right of the battery.
Could that be the reason it says that IDPROM contents are invalid?
Cause its just not there?
If i get one of those chips installed, is it possible that that would fix the problem?
Happy New Year to everyone and i look forward to your replies !!!

I was referring to everything... memory, processors, hard drives...
I didn't think it would even blink without a idprom... if it is actually missing, I would contact the person who sold it to you (or whatever) and ask for one... I just looked on ebay and couldn't find one... if Sun sells them, make sure your bank account is fat.
usually when you get the IDPROM contents are invalid message, that means the built-in battery is dead...
did you try googling the idprom statement?
just for giggles, start the machine while holding down the Stop and
N keys until it posts.... you do have a Sun keyboard/mouse, right?
weekends are the worst time for help!
good luck,

Its not there. I don't have it. Its missing.
If i buy one, doest it need to be programmed? Or do they come ready to go?
</td></tr></table>From looking at <a href="http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunBlade1000/components.html " target="_blank"> http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/SunBlade1000/co mponents.html</a> the part number for a replacement IDPROM is #525-1788, with a list price of $38.00
A spare IDPROM should come with a host ID and ethernet address programmed, ready to go.
Given that some software licences are fixed to a specific host ID, I can only think that the seller removed the IDPROM on purpose to reuse licensed software on another machine...

</td></tr></table>A blade 1000 uses a SEEPROM to store the IDPROM contents, rather than the battery-backed 48T59 NVRAM used in the older systems such as an Ultra 5/10. Thus, don't think there is a built-in battery in a #525-1788
(The Blade 1000 does have a replaceable lithium battery, but think that is only used to maintain the Time of Day clock)
Hello again, everyone!!!
Just a little update:
I ended up keeping the box as the seller refunded me $250 for the wrong processors (pretty cool). So what i got was a Blade 1000 with dual UltraSPARC III 750 MHz, 2GB RAM, DVD-ROM, 18GB FC-AL HDD, PGX Graphics for $285. Is that a good deal or what?
I ordered the IDPROM from Sun for $38. Plugged it in and all the problems went away. It works like a champ now with the latest Solaris 10 (01/06) build and updated OBP and POST (4.16.4).
I also just ordered a Sun DDS-3 internal SCSI tape backup (12/24GB) for $20 and a Sun XVR-100 video card for $25.
Don't you just love eBay?
My question is about the video card.
Will it work in the Blade 1000? I know it works fine in Blade 1500, 2000 and 280R which is rackmountable version of the Blade 1000.
Does anyone have this setup?
Thanks in advance,
Sal.
