Sun 3D creator + 13w3 to VGA convert + Dell 15" TFT

Hi

I ve got a Ultra 30 with 3D creator. I am trying to connect it to my Dell 15" TFT monito with a 13w3 converter. The problem is that as soon as I plug the converter to the monitor this goes to a save energy mode.

Has someone has this problem? Is it related to de refresh rate or pinout of the converter?

Thank you for your help.

The pinout of the converter is hardly the problem unless you made it yourself.

I think the openboot is set to a resolution/refresh rate your 15" doesn't support. When using a converter this is a problem, as the sun system doesn't get enough information from a PC monitor to sync properly.

Here's what you can try. I don't know what resolution your monitor supports, but since it's a 15" I will assume it supports 800x600x60Hz.

So, you will have to do this blind, unless you have another monitor.

Start the system up, wait until the keyboard blinks, wait a few seconds then press STOP-A. Type in the following, slowly as you can't see mistakes you've made and backspace doesn't work.

setenv output-device screen:r800x600x60

Press enter then type in reset-all. This will start the system in a forced mode of 800x600.

Thank you kryptman.I have followed your instructions and the monitor is still in save mode. It doesnt even blink for a second. My 15" monitor can handle higher resolution. It seems to me that the problem resides in the converter.Thank you for your help.

Hello.

I have a similar problem.

In my case the Elite 3D Graphics card generates a "csync" signal while most PC monitors require a "vsync/hsync" signal. The display receives no "vsync" signal which means "energy save mode" if the display does not understand "csync".

I use the "LM 1881" IC to create the "vsync" signal out of "csync". "csync" can be used as "hsync" signal directly. Unfortunately the circuit does not work propperly...
