sun e3500 fc-al disk change

We have a SUN E3500 with 3 fc-all disk drives. The disks configuration is : 1 boot disk and 2 mirrored disk . One of the mirrored disks fail and I need to change it. My actual disks are ST136403FC / PN 9L7004-022. Place help to make a good choise to buy a disk to replace the bad drive. I'm new in this and i don't know what hidden problem can occur in this operation. So if someone know, please tell me what operation i must to do to replace the failed disk. Thanks

The part number listed in this post does not appear to belong to an E3500. If you look at the front of the disk on the metal spring plate there should be a number that starts with 540-XXXX. This is the part number that you will need to order from SUN Service.

Do you have a service contract? If so open a service call using the serial number of the server. Or you can open a service call that is time and materials of which you will need to pay for parts and a service tech to come out and change it.

You will also need the proper disk replacement procedure for the mirroring software/hardware that is being used before changing out the drive.

I check and i found that part number is 5404192-01. I can buy some X6724A disks. Can i solve my problem with that disks? I have no service contract, but i read about format and metadb. So if you can describe the steps of procedure i will be greatful. I'm not sure what to do before formating the new drive. After formating, it is clear how it works the metadb. Thanks

The X6724A option seems to be correct for the E3500, but the part number of the disk 540-4192 doesn't appear to be valid for an E3500. But anyway if you order an X6724 you should be OK.

From your other statements ".... metadb ...." it appears that you are running Disksuite as your mirroring software. Off the top of my head I don't recall the exact procedure so I would recommend doing a web search on "disksuite disk replacement". I do recall that "format" is used to partition the new drive to look exactly identical as the existing disk.

Or, you could cheat and use prtvtoc to a file from good remaining drive and fmthard new drive with that file. Additionally you will want to read up on luxadm command as the new drive will have a new WWN.
