The best thing to do is just practice as much code as possible. It would be worthwhile to do SCJP or SCJA exams if you are prepared. What that does is certify your knowledge of java. if you have a rss client, why dont you subscrible to the feeds and forums on the java.sun website.
I am also studying for the SCJP exam, and I have been advised to first learn and understand all concepts well (objectives are on the sun website). After that, invest in a couple of good books, work through the questions, and also try the net for practice questions. Its basically like driving a car after you passed your test - the more you practice, the better you get!
Hope that helps....! :D
Have fun learning ! ;)

Thanks, I m shooting to take my exam in in febuary some time, and I'm trying to make sure I'm making all the right movies to take it. I do have the SCJP book. Im goin to read the Dietel and Deitel on and The one that the Java createres had wrote,"Java the Programming language" or something like that
If the changes to the exam to make it harder on people who cram without having used the language for real work, you're going to have a hard time.
Certificates should have value, and making them easy to get for kids who can cram a few books into their heads for short term memory retention decreases that value.
The core test isn't hard to pass. There are some tricky questions, but you only need to get a certain percentage right, and it's not that high. That said, i got a lower percentage than i thought i would.
Since java programming is being outsourced to India I would learn it to develop a business of your own. Be a programmer and entrepreneur. That is the safest thing to do considering that java salaries are declining because of outsourcing out of the US and other countries. Do we all concur on this? Yes? No?

Bollocks! My salary has been increasing steadily, and I get dozens of calls from recruiters each week. Good, experienced java programmers are very much in demand.
Please read "Sun certified java programmer " book by Kathy Sierra and Bert bates. This book along with your programming experience will take you through the exam.
the book of Java Certification by khalid mughal is fine and best according to me.bye http://www.sumitkar.org
> the book of Java Certification by khalid mughal is> fine and best according to me.Either it is fine (which I agree to) or it is the best. It can't be both at the same time.
Maybe the print is very small? :)
